Ouqba Ted | Jumping on the Horizon for Ted

Thoroughbred gelding, Ouqba Ted, entered the world in October of 2014. By Ouqba, this West Australian bred gelding began his racing career in mid-2017, with trainer Kath Pinter. Following 18 starts and five trials with Pinter, Ouqba Ted was then moved on to trainer, Willie Parker in Geraldton for seven starts, with five wins. Following success in Geraldton, Ouqba Ted was then brought back to Perth where he began training with Colin Webster for a further 20 starts and three trials, including another three wins. Finally, in early 2022, Ouqba Ted returned to Willie Parker for another Geraldton racing stint and was then retired in December of 2022. “Ted” retired with a career of 51 starts, eight wins, two seconds and three thirds, with total prize earnings of $142,983.

Following retirement, Ted was spelled for a period of time before being rehomed.

In June of 2023, Ouqba Ted was purchased by Storm Barron, who was seeking an athletic and intelligent mount to bring into the show jumping world. Although green, Ted proved to be a good match as he was trainable and clever, with a keen talent for jumping. Together, Storm and Ted have been working to build a bond while progressing Ted toward his new career. At his first show, Ted came away with a first placing in the 60cm show jumping class, and second in the 70cm, which further solidified Storms confidence in his ability to progress through the heights. Storm has aspirations to train Ted to one day compete at Equestrian in the Park.

“I’m hoping that in 2024, we will be able to move up to the bigger heights and be competing 1m classes, with hopes to go even higher,” said Storm.

OTTWA wish Ted and Storm all the best for their future adventures together.
