About Off the Track WA

Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Off the Track WA (OTTWA) program plays an integral part in promoting thoroughbreds and standardbreds in their second careers as pleasure and performance horses.

OTTWA’s activities increase the demand for, and supports the placement of retired racehorses in second careers through a number of initiatives including:

  • Hosting metropolitan and regional off the track horse only clinics and events in collaboration with Equestrian Western Australia
  • Sponsoring Off the Track classes and prizes and regional and metropolitan events
  • The OTTWA Retraining Program which encompasses the OTTWA Estate and a network of OTTWA Official Retrainers. The Retraining Program endeavours to complement already established pathways for rehoming retired racehorses, and works to provide them with the necessary skills and experiences needed to transition from racing to their second career as a pleasure or performance horses.
  • Promotion of re-trainers and rehoming services
  • Hosting a free “Find Your Horse” and “Sell Your Horse” service
  • Providing education materials to guide and support those with off the track horses
