What’s Up Snip | Happy as Snip!

What’s Up Snip is a 2010 Snippetson gelding who was bred in New South Wales and began his racing career with Quokka winning trainer, Bjorn Baker. What’s Up Snip trialed and ran his first five starts under Baker, before moving onto Lyle Rowe for a further three starts, Kelly Sheargold for a further seven starts, and finally, retiring with Ken Laffin in 2015. What’s Up Snip retired with three wins and one third, earning $32,900 on the track.

What’s Up Snip was purchased six weeks off the track, sight unseen, by Jaime Halls mother, who saw the gelding listed upon Facebook and thought he was too pretty with four white socks to be missed. “Larry” was transported over from Queensland and began his new career with Jaime in Western Australia in 2015.

After a year on spell, Larry was brought into work and proved to be quite straightforward to train. He enjoyed his new job and was highly food-orientated, which made him quite easy to take off property as long as he had a snack. Jaime commented that although he can have an attitude at times, she believes it gives him a competitive edge in the arena as he carries a presence about him. Jaime has enjoyed competing What’s Up Snip (competed as Happy As), as he has a great attitude toward his work and is an enjoyable and trainable ride.

Together, Jaime and Happy As (Larry) have achieved a great amount together. In 2020, Happy As was the Overall Participant Novice Winner at State Dressage Championships. In 2021, Happy As achieved his first super dressage eventing score, with only sixteen penalties, and won his first two-star events at both Moora Horse Trials and Perth Horse Trials, where he finished on his dressage score. Larry and Jaime continue to achieve many fantastic wins and achievements together, forming a strong partnership.

Jaime hopes to continue enjoying her rides on Larry, seeing where he can take her and dabbling in more dressage specific events. She hopes to one day travel over east to compete him in Melbourne 3DE and Sydney 3DE.

OTTWA wish What’s Up Snip and Jaime all the best for their future together.
