Selino | Off the Track Story
British bred Selino has lived quite the life. Imported across the world in 2020, Selino by Champs Elysees has travelled his fair share of miles. From Newmarket to Flemington, Rosehill to Warrnambool, even a brief stop on the Gold Coast, Selino is now West Australian based.
Selino had an impressive start to his career in 2019, placing in his first six starts. It was clear this horse had the engine to become something special. He then went on to place second in both the Doncaster Cup and the Chester Stakes in late 2020.
Shortly after his Doncaster Cup second place, Selino boarded a plane and headed down under. In his first ‘Aussie’ race, he was piloted by none-other than West Australia’s own, William Pike. From there, the Australian hunt for a placing began with Selino taking some time to adjust before launching to a win in the Schweppes Sydney Cup 2021. He followed this cup up with a win in the Brisbane Cup 2023.

His Australian dream wasn’t always smooth sailing, but when he did win, he made it count. After 33 starts, Selino retired from racing with Chris Waller having earned $2.135 million dollars from four wins and seven placings. He started in several cups, including the 2021 Melbourne Cup where he placed eighth, and garnered a fan club along the way.
After retirement, Selino landed into the open arms of owner, Terry Henderson’s granddaughter, Lola.

“Growing up with my grandpa in racing, I would always be looking out for his horses in big races. Funnily enough, five years ago in 2021 I watched Selino in the Sydney and Melbourne Cup, so I have been very fortunate to watch both his life on and off the track.”
Now, Selino and Lola can explore a new career together. The possibilities are endless.

“My goal at the moment is for him to settle into life off the track and learn to calm down and use his brain a bit more.”
“Overall, our goal is to have a successful eventing career, starting small and hopefully move up the levels!”
We look forward to following along with Selino’s journey into a new career and wish Lola all the best!
