Brother Paddy | Paddy Set for A Life of Showing

2014 Blackfriars gelding, Brother Paddy, began his race career in mid-2017. Trained by trainers such as Alan Mathews, Rob Brown and Coreen Maynard, Brother Paddy ran a total of 60 starts for six wins, eight seconds and three thirds. Most of Brother Paddy’s wins were won under Coreen Maynard, who trained the handsome gelding for his final 30 starts. Retiring with a career total of $201,075, Brother Paddy retired and was retained by trainer, Coreen Maynard to be transformed into a show horse.

“I trained him and knew that he would make a perfect show horse. He is quality and has the perfect temperament. His jockey, who rode him for four of his wins, said to me one day in the mounting yard, ‘Look at him. He knows he is the best-looking horse here!’” commented Coreen.

Since retiring from racing, Coreen has been working to retrain “Paddy” towards his new show horse future. Although still green and curious about the world around him, Paddy is described as being trusty and trainable. Coreen has been working to get Paddy out as much as possible to allow him the opportunity to experience and learn to relax in different environments. Once his canter under saddle has been solidified, Coreen hopes to begin his showing career.

Brother Paddy and Coreen recently attended the Awesome All Breeds Show held at Kings Meadow Polo Grounds by the Pinto Horse Society. Brother Paddy was fortunate enough to be receive the sash for Champion Thoroughbred at his first breed show, behaving well throughout the day, during preparations leading up to the event and handling the atmosphere positively. They also attended the October OTTWA Classic Clinic hosted at State Equestrian Centre, where they gained more exposure and experience. Long term, Coreen hopes to one day see Paddy win Champion Large Hack at a Horse of the Year event.

OTTWA wish Brother Paddy and Coreen all the best for their future together.
