Truie and Jessie Davis | Off the Track Show Jumper’s Sights Turned Eastward

Update:
Due to the updated WA border closure announced on Friday 21 January Truie and Jessie are no longer travelling to Victoria. While we regret that they will no longer be representing West Australian off the track horses interstate we wish them success in their WA competition season.

Off the Track WA is proud to announce the sponsorship of show jumpers Truie and Jessie Davis in support of their Victorian campaign. The pair will be competing at the Homes and Acreage World Wetlands Day Jumping Championships and 2021 Pryde’s Easifeed Australian Jumping Championships, both hosted at Boneo Park.

Truie, a 2010 mare by Heritage was bred by Jessie’s cousins, Tom and Alan Waldeck at Waldeck Farms. Truie retired from her racing career in June 2013, after six starts under trainer Ross Price. Jessie remembers the mare being quick out of the starting gates, but that her small 15.2hh frame couldn’t keep pace with other runners. Jessie had always hoped to have the mare once she finished racing.

“As she was named after my Grandmother, I of course said she would always have a home with me after her hopefully impressive racing career,” said Jessie.

Once Truie was home, Jessie wanted to gauge her talents, so put the mare through a free jump schooling lane and was impressed with her natural technique.

“Truie has been brought along slowly build her confidence. She has become a brave mare who loves using her careful technique in the ring and is always an absolute pleasure to compete on.”

Despite an interrupted 2020 competition season Truie and Jessie have achieved success and growth over the past two years. The pair have placed in various classes at the 2020 and 2021 WA State Show Jumping Championships, 2021 WASJA Patron’s Cup, Kellerberrin Agricultural Show, and at various Swan River Showjumping Club events.

Truie and Jessie will be leaving from their central wheatbelt home on Saturday 22 January, with fellow competitor Sarah Isbister.

We look forward to following and sharing Truie and Jessie’s journey through their Victorian campaign.
