Homme & Ripplebrook Equestrian Vaulting Academy | Success on The Track and On The Lunge.

Off the Track WA is pleased to announce sponsorship of the Ripplebrook Equestrian Vaulting Academy’s (REVA) 2022 National Vaulting Championships campaign with their thoroughbred, Homme.

Homme, a 2002 gelding by Surtee was bred by the late George Daly and foaled at Korilya Stud in Busselton. Homme went on to race his first 23 of 55 starts under Mr. Daly. The pair had successful campaigns between 2005 and 2008. Homme placed in his first eight starts, including running second by less than a neck in the 2005 Placid Ark Stakes, the G3 Lee-Steere Cup, and the Raconteur Stakes. In 2008 Sean Casey took over training the well-performed gelding for his next 22 starts including nine placings. Kristy Casey looked after Homme from late 2009 for his final ten starts and final placing. Homme ran his last race in August 2010, having earnt his connections $171,910.

In 2013 Kay Fowler, coach at REVA was on the lookout for a large vaulting horse. The team needed a mount who had the potential to canter and take the REVA vaulters up the grades. Homme, who is known to the team as Mackerson or Mak, had previously been to adult riders but was out of work and looking for a new home. Mak’s calm and responsive temperament suited his new career perfectly. The REVA team took his training slow and steady, and Mak adjusted quickly. Within two years Mak was a part of their competitive walking team, and one year later he was cantering at competitions and demonstrations.

During his time with REVA Mak has consistently demonstrated the value and potential of thoroughbreds as vaulting horses. Hundreds of children and adults have learnt to vault on Mak. Many spectators have witnessed his steady, consistent canter and unflappable nature. Mak has assisted REVA in demonstrations at numerous events including the 2019 Equestra, Mount Marshall Country Show, many Pony Club rallies, EWA training clinics and Collie RDA camps. The reliable stalwart has been the mount for vaulters at over 15 competitions including the PCWA Active Riding Championships, Bunbury Agricultural Show, RDA WA State Vaulting Championships and the 2022 EWA Interschools event.

Kay Fowler, a coach at REVA, credits Mak with the team growing the vaulting levels.

“Mak is the reason why everyone has done so well. He’s a favourite and has given many riders a solid start from RDA to reach national level.” Kay says.

The National Vaulting Championships are to be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre from the third to the sixth of October. Mak has already been an integral member of REVA’s National Vaulting Championship team twice before, in 2016 and 2018, and this year will be his last before enjoying retirement. Besides some light riding, Mak will enjoy grassy paddocks and continue live out his days with the REVA family.

The REVA team will be heading east on Saturday.

OTTWA wishes the REVA team the best of luck for Mak’s swan song event.
