ADELAIDE EQUESTRIAN FESTIVAL

Adelaide Equestrian Festival brought in huge crowds and thrilling results. Several West Australian riders travelled over, with three Off the Track WA sponsored horses competing.

Distribute

Isobel Stevens-Menzie travelled over to tackle this class onboard her retired Thoroughbred, Distribute, following her Capel Horse and Pony Club CCI 3* win in March.

The competition kicked off on day one with dressage.

“After an amazing warm-up, the atmosphere was fairly overwhelming for Remy in the ring and we had a bit of a tense ride,” reflected Issy.

Despite this tension, Remy and Issy were ready and confident going into cross country; everyone’s favourite phase.

“Remy was an absolute legend out there today. He gave me everything he had to offer and more. A near perfect run until the final combination.”

Due to an unfortunate error of course, Distribute and Isobel accumulated some penalties despite delivering a beautiful round. This sadly knocked them down the placings but could not knock the confidence that Issy had in her horse.

“Super proud of how great 95% of the course was for us and looking forward to learning and improving from this.”

The final phase proved their connection, with Issy and Remy delivering a beautiful show jumping round to finish with one unlucky pole.

Congratulations to Isobel and Distribute on completing another Adelaide Equestrian Festival and flying the Off the Track WA flag as one of our proud sponsored horse and rider combination.

Horseland CCI4*-S

Joining Distribute on his journey over, Out of Line and Riley Lyall took on the 4* class with fellow sponsored competitor, Charlee Morton-Sharp and Super Maxi.

Super Maxi

Charlee and her committed team strived to bring Super Maxi back into form following an injury that left his future uncertain, and their hard work paid off. With a qualifying win in their first 4* start, Charlee and Super stepped up a grade and tackled the 4* at Adelaide Equestrian Festival.

Reflecting Charlee writes, “While the scoreboard didn’t look quite as I hoped it would, Super Maxi tried his heart out every step of the way and we had so many positives to take home.”

“Super had some lovely movements and great marks in the dressage, but unfortunately costly mistakes towards the end of his test brought down his score.”

“A super clear cross-country round was the highlight, and to have him pull up so well was great to see.”

“He was jumping so well on show jumping day and the first eight fences felt amazing.”

Finishing in 13th position, just outside of the top ten, was a great achievement for a rider and horse competing in their second four star start. Charlee and Super Maxi were also selected for the Australian Green Team in the Oceania Championships, with their team winning Runner-Up.

“To complete our second ever four star at Adelaide, with an MER as part of an Australian Senior Team is a lot to be proud of considering it was just four months ago that Super Maxi’s future in eventing was uncertain. He couldn’t have tried harder for me all week.”

Congratulations to Charlee and Super Maxi. We look forward to following along with this combination at Melbourne International 3DE.

Out of Line

Out of Line and Riley aimed to improve on their previous dressage results and tackle another technical Adelaide track.

“Day two saw us step into the dressage arena with GI War Machine (Out of Line). While the final score might not fully reflect how positive the ride felt, it marked a genuine step forward for us as a combination.”

“There was some tension in places, but overall, it was a well-held together test with plenty of moments that showed real progress and growing confidence in a big atmosphere.”

Out of Line then went on to deliver an impressive cross-country round, coming home clear with some time penalties.

“GI War Machine (Out of Line) produced another strong and positive clear round. Despite picking up a few time penalties, it was a very pleasing ride. Being such a big horse can make the tighter, more technical lines through the trees a challenge, but “Arnie” handled it well and kept a great rhythm throughout.”

Show jumping saw the combination pick up a few unlucky poles.

“While we didn’t come away with any placings, the experience has been invaluable. There’s been plenty of progress, lessons learned, and areas identified to keep building on. It’s all part of the process and we’re excited to come back bigger, stronger, and better prepared next time.”

Congratulations to Riley on another Adelaide start added to the resume and a positive step forward towards the future.

All these horses retired from racing ready to start a new career, and they have done so with versatility, talent and determination. Eventing is the most popular discipline amongst retired racehorse owners as these horses are built for speed, endurance and agility. The perfect recipe for a cross-country mount.
