Winter Eventing at Brigadoon
We have truly reached the winter season, with cold weather, rain and wind slowing down Perth and surrounding areas. Of course, this didn’t stop dedicated riders from preparing their off the track mounts for Brigadoon’s first CCN of the year.
The event featured three OTTWA-sponsored classes, offering significant opportunities for retired racehorses in performance homes. Whether as competitors, sponsors, or spectators, the talent and grit from both horses and riders was admirable.
The OTT65cm class had 18 starters. Top results were:
- Uncanny Timing and Irene Smythe
- Son of Bacchus and Lucinda Boulter
- Wiener Waltz and Georgina Oakman
- Shintashi and Dani Carey
- Loki and Julia Kershaw
- Olyrue and Dani Carey
As their first eventing start for the year, Irene Smythe and Uncanny Timing secured the win. Following success at Swan River Dressage, Son of Bacchus and Lucinda Boulter slotted into the top ten rankings in second place. Georgina Oakman started off her eventing year with third place, while Dani Carey continued a consistent trend of placing in the OTT65 class. Loki and Julia returned after their win at Murray to claim the fifth place between both Dani’s mounts.
The OTT80cm class had 26 starters and the top results were:
- Desert God and Laurelle Hayes
- Platoon and Tegan Cook
- Candour and Emma Duncan
- Royal Encounter and Kate Alexander
- Ollie’s Barrel and Sophie Warren
- Hitchinrail and Ava Skeldon.
Desert God secured his first eventing win of 2025 with Laurelle Hayes onboard, whilst Tegan Cook and Platoon continued their dominant top two ranking. Emma Duncan and Candour maintained a consistent top 10 trend with their highest placing of the year so far and Kate Alexander and Royal Encounter improved on their previous result at Murray CCN to secure themselves fourth place. Sophie Warren and Ollie’s Barrel maintained their fifth-place trend from Murray with another placing at Brigadoon, whilst new combination, Ava Skeldon and Hitchinrail claimed the final OTT placing. Congratulations to all these riders, and to everyone who competed on an off the track horse.
The OTT95cm class featured 10 off the track starters. Top results were:
- Phoenix Quill and Ashleigh Williams
- Explosion and Annalise Duschka
- Artie’s Jewels and Courtney Perkins
- Brave Battle and Makayla Wood
- Maccacino and Amberlee Brown
- Big Summer and Julia Kerhsaw
Maintaining their placing throughout the phases, Phoenix Quill and Ashleigh claimed the win. Explosion and Annalise Duschka secured their first eventing placing of the year with a second place. Artie’s Jewels and Courtney Perkins remained consistent with top ten placings to secure third place, whilst Makayla Wood and Brave Battle improved on their Murray results to return to the placings.
In the CCN classes, off the track horses dominated the 3* and 2* class placings, with Matilda Hathway winning the 3* class on Duke Star (The Aristocrat) and Jaime Hall winning the 2* class on Conrad’s Mission. The CCN3* also saw Tegan Cook and Lyrical Discourse claim second and Sarah Dawson and Sunsupernatural claim fourth. The CCN2* had Michael Dagostino and Steel Business slot into second place and Sally Ellis and Bustabill followed up with third.
The CCN1* listed several off the track starters, with Samantha Cook and grey gelding, Celtic Blitz securing Best Performed OTT with sixth place. In the Junior 1*, Scarlet Currey and Our Congrats claimed second place and Best Performed OTT, while Alex Vlasschaert and Excitadane were fifth.
There were also plenty of off the track horses in the Junior and Rookie classes, with notable results such as: Sophie Ikenushi and Morsecodian winning the EvA80 Junior class and Serena Smith winning the EvA95 Junior class on Usuthu. Pony Club classes also saw off the track place getters, with several placing in the top five.
Congratulations to everyone who competed at this OTTWA Sponsored Event and we hope everyone enjoyed their rides onboard their off the track horses!
