Prescience | This gelding is the perfect formula!

Prescience, by Kyllachy (GB) and out of Clear Vision (GB) began racing in his country of birth, England under Trainer Richard Hannan. During his English racing career, the 2012 foal had six starts for two seconds and one third, earning £3,334.53 ($6,242.28 AUD).

Prescience made the trip to Australia in late 2015 where he landed in the care of New South Wales-based trainer Chris Waller Racing. From 2015 to late 2018 he had 23 starts for seven seconds, four thirds and two firsts under Waller. In late 2018 Prescience travelled west and had his first start in August 2019 with Campbell McCallum of M.C Thoroughbreds with whom he remained for his final 14 starts. Amongst these starts were Campbell’s first two wins as a trainer.

“He was always a pleasure to have around the stables. A real gentleman. If he couldn’t find the perfect home, he always had a home with us.” says Campbell.

Prescience retired in September 2020 with a total of 43 starts, for four wins, nine seconds, six thirds, and having earnt $148,181.

In November 2020 Prescience, or Pretzel was purchased by Lorraine Delamotte and joined the team of horses at Ripplebrook Equestrian Vaulting Academy – REVA

Before joining REVA’s team the Academy met Pretzel several times, during these visits he showed his friendly and even temperament. Initially, REVA tested out his potential as a vaulting horse with some basic exercises with a vaulter on board whilst being led. Kay Fowler, a member and organiser at REVA, says he did not bat an eyelid or put a hoof wrong.

Prior to Pretzel joining the team REVA had four horses, three of which are Warmbloods and one thoroughbred, Homme who is now known as Mackerson. Kay says Mackerson is their most successful canter vaulting horse, and for this reason they were looking for another thoroughbred to accommodate for their growing number of vaulters.

Pretzel’s training over the initial few months included learning to lunge outside of a round yard, groundwork, ridden flatwork, trail rides and some fitness work. During this time he also began vaulting training sessions with the club.

Pretzel has just begun his first season of competitive vaulting, joining the team at the REVA Encouragement Vaulting competition in June, hosted by Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Oakford where he won Best Performed Off the Track Horse. Pretzel also joined an Off the Track WA Clinic on 10 July with owner Lorraine for a groundwork lesson with David Carey.
We look forward to seeing Pretzel and his fellow off the track vaulting horses at the OTTWA sponsored Royal Park Riding Academy & Agistment Encouragement Show in October, and RDAA State Vaulting Competition in December.
