Jumping to the Top

Retired racehorses are slowly infiltrating the show jumping scene and finding success amongst a world of purpose-bred jumpers. From WA State Jumping Titles to WASJA Winter Championships, Off the Track WA are proud sponsors of OTTWA show jumping classes.

The 2026 WASJA Winter Championships took place over the weekend of June 20 -21, hosting four off-the-track classes exclusive to retired racehorses.

Saturday kicked off with the first OTTWA class in the main arena: the Off the Track WA 1.05m for OTT horses. With 13 starters, the competition was tight with all but two horses jumping clear in the first round.

Rolling on into the jump off, Jaime Baker’s mare, Restart the Game (Bling it to Me) outdid the competition with two quick clear rounds. This flashy mare has had a successful few competitions, also placing fourth at State Jumping Titles in the Duncan Equine Welcome Open 1.05m class.

Freedom of the Press and Ima Lovalover placed second and third respectively, also jumping two clear rounds with some time differences. Chauvel and All West made up the remaining top five placings, each collecting one unlucky rail in the jump off. Overall, the class was hotly contested and a great showcase of OTT talent!

Later in the day, Wendy Reid and Storm Cloud repeated their OTTWA 1.10m domination with another well earnt win. Having won this class several times at the State Jumping Titles, Storm Cloud is a tough competitor in the 1.10m classes.

Natalie Hibbert’s, Two Chances, was close behind with two clear rounds for second, and Emily Billing and Freedom of the Press backed up their 1.05m success with a third place after one unlucky rail.

Key Emblem with Chloe Land, winners of the State Children’s Title, were the last double clear competitors, finishing in fourth and just missing out on jump off after an unlucky two faults in the first round.

In the Open classes, Ima Lovalover claimed a third in the Helena Valley Podiatry Q3-Equine World Ami Series 1.10m class amongst a large field of 24 competitors. Reggie was one of two OTT competitors in this class, followed by Our Congrats and Kate Stoney in ninth.

Two Chances was one of the only OTT competitors in the Enforce Open 1.15m class to make it into the jump off after a clear first round. Unfortunately, some unlucky faults in the jump off knocked them down into 17th position.

OTT competitors are now looking towards Perth Show Jumping League where more opportunities arise to showcase their retired racehorses jumping talents.
