Under the Gun | Tupac’s Career Change

After only four starts, Under the Gun retired from racing ready to start his off-the-track career. This Casino Prince gelding began his racing career in 2022 with Dion Luciani for his first few trials. He then moved to Michael Lane’s stables and retired finally with Coreen Maynard. Retiring in 2024, Under the Gun was rehomed to Misty Jones.

Misty owned Under the Gun for several months, helping him to transition into his new life away from the racetrack. Known as Tupac, this loveable gelding spent his time learning the basics before being rehomed into the loving care of Lily Evans.

A love for speed first attracted Lily to purchase an off the track horse, however it was their can-do attitude and big heart that secured a special place in her heart.

“They are such magnificent horses and shouldn’t be treated as lesser just because they had a different start in life,” commented Lily.

Lily suggested that Tupac was the most docile and quiet horse she’d ever met, despite being young and inexperienced.

“He is affectionate like no other and will look for a cuddle wherever he can.”

Together, Lily and Tupac have been working to better his balance and understanding of leg aids. Tupac has made the retraining process easy with his willingness to try. While he can be spooky, and can be a little over-friendly at times, he is a loveable horse adored by all.

In June, Under the Gun and Lily placed third at Peel Horse and Pony Club’s Showman event. After competing in the 45cm show jumping, Lily hopes to compete in the 60cm classes by the end of 2025. Lily’s future aspirations for Tupac include jumping confidently at 80cm’s and strengthening his canter.

Lily’s biggest hope is have a happy and healthy horse for many years to follow.
