The Beachcomber | Jumping with Snoop
The Beachcomber is one of many versatile standardbreds enjoying their off the track career. Bred in 2013, this pacing gelding began his race career in 2016 for 15 starts. After three wins for lifetime earnings of $19,927, The Beachcomber retired from racing in 2017.
Known as Snoop Dog, this handsome gelding was first introduced to his now partner in crime through Michael Dagostino and Showgrounds Equestrian Centre. After his companion sadly passed, Snoop was sold to Michael where he would have endless friends amongst the Showground horses. It was at this time that Snoop met Jamie.
“I thought he was the prettiest standardbred I’d ever seen, so I asked Michael if I was able to buy him.”
Snoop had had previous training but was still green and learning. He was an anxious soul, requiring trust and comfort from his rider. Jamie worked through this to build his confidence and soon was popping Snoop over jumps. He turned out to be a super jumper and enjoyed it immensely.
Recently, Jamie took Snoop to his first ever event at Gidgegannup CCN. Ensuring the experience was positive and relaxed, Jamie and Snoop completed the weekend happy with their accomplishment.
“He did exactly what I asked of him the entire weekend without stepping a foot wrong.”
Jamie would love to compete in more events with Snoop and hopes to also venture into show jumping.
“I don’t have any big goals for him. If he’s doing well and feels good, we will take him to more events. Otherwise, he’ll stay home and be pampered with his horsey best friend by his side.”
With a bright future ahead of them and a supportive team, we look forward to following along with Jamie and Snoop’s future. It’s great to see another standardbred venturing into eventing and jumping disciplines.
