SPPHAWA Dual Code Spectacular and OTT Classic 2025
Kings Meadow Polo Grounds was abuzz with activity on the first weekend of May.
Hosted by the Standardbred Pleasure and Performance Horse Association of Western Australia, Off the Track WA were proud to sponsor the SPPHAWA Dual Code Spectacular for Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds, along with sponsoring our own classes entitled the OTT Classic.
Featuring a weekend full of retired racehorses, we were thrilled to see so many retired racehorses excelling in performance show homes.
On Saturday, there were eighteen Standardbreds, with many familiar faces returning to the ring.
Of these eighteen horses, Supreme Standardbred (in-hand) was awarded to Aspasia, a 2016 mare by Rich and Spoilt.
Aspasia then went on to win the Supreme of Supreme Dual Code Cup on Sunday over the Supreme Thoroughbred and Supreme Partbred Thoroughbred.
Most Standardbreds exhibited were Western Australian bred horses, with Kiwi Legend and Iam Lambros the New Zealand intruders. It was great to see the quality of WA Standardbreds on display.
In the OTT Standardbred Open Classic, the competition was hotly contested, with Peregrine Lily securing the win.
This 20-year-old mare dazzled the judges with her strong, powerful build and sweet expression. Runner-up was awarded to ItsNotOva, a stunning black gelding by MrFeelGood USA.
The remaining top five competitors included Aspasia, Tough As Steel and Master Jaxon. Congratulations to all exhibitors for showing their Standardbreds so beautifully.
The Walk/Trot Standardbred Classic was another feature class, with tall and handsome gelding, Hold Em Up claiming the win.
This 2016 gelding by P Forty-Seven USA is a lovely example of the Standardbred breed.
Runner-Up was then awarded to Iam Lambros NZ, a beautiful dark brown gelding by Bettors Delight USA.
The top five placings were received by: Folsom Prison, Boston Rob and Last Chance Adda.
Congratulations to these competitors on their wonderful results with their beloved Standardbreds.
On Sunday, Thoroughbreds stepped into the ring with their Partbred counterparts.
There were thirty Thoroughbreds entered, with a variety of shapes and sizes displayed.
Supreme Thoroughbred (in-hand) was awarded to the energetic and beautiful mare, Our Lady Bessie.
By Sessions, this 2019 mare retired from racing in 2024.
It was great to see Sport horses’ step into the ring, with three eventers and one dressage mount competing.
These four horses showcased their versatility, performing lovely workouts despite the lack of jumps.
Champion Sport Horse was won by lovely chestnut gelding, Degree of Luck and Taylor Palmer.
When he is not dazzling a judge with his lovely paces and big white stripe, Degree of Luck events up to 80cm with his junior rider.
The OTT Thoroughbred Classic was a great display of quality horses.
With such a strong line up of Thoroughbreds, the judges had their work cut out for them, with the winner eventually announced as Manajito, a lovely big bay gelding by Passenger.
Runner-up was awarded to Manajito’s stablemate, Victime De L’armour, both owned by Sara Naylor.
Top five placings were presented to Degree of Luck, Fighting Harada and Blackwater Bay.
Congratulations to these horses and riders for their superb workouts and presentations.
It was a fantastic weekend to showcase the beauty and paces of Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds.
Off the Track WA are proud to sponsor this event each year, with so many wonderful opportunities to connect and meet horses and riders within the off the track community.
We look forward to next year!
