Rockhampton Rocket | Striking Ajax Aiming Onwards and Upwards

Rockhampton Rocket, a Western Australian bred thoroughbred by Knowledge, entered the world in October of 2010. Trained by Jayne Busslinger, Rockhampton Rocket trialed twice in November of 2013 before running his first and only start that following December. After this first start, Rockhampton Rocket was retired from racing.

Known off the track as Ajax, this striking chestnut gelding traded racing for eventing with previous owner, Christie Ridley. Christie and Ajax competed up to 80cm eventing and jumping heights, as well as elementary level dressage.

In November of 2021, Ajax was leased by Imogen Hill, who would later purchase the gelding in December of 2022 on Christmas Day. Together, Imogen and Ajax compete in a variety of disciplines; including eventing, show jumping, dressage, and endurance riding. It was the athleticism, willingness and talent of Thoroughbreds that initially drew Imogen to leasing Ajax.

“Once you give them a new job, they will try so hard for their riders. Off the trackers are so smart and pick up new things extremely quickly!” Imogen commented.

Imogen described Ajax as being full of personality. His trainability paired with his work ethic, makes riding and training fun and easy. Imogen suggested this is what makes Ajax the most trainable horse she has ever sat on. Imogen couldn’t pinpoint a precise accomplishment that stood out as their greatest, as each one has been uniquely special.

“It has been hard at times, but so rewarding,” Imogen expressed regarding her time so far working with Ajax.

Together, Imogen aims to continue competing around the 95cm tracks in eventing, with the goal to produce consistent clear and confident cross country runs. Long term, Imogen hopes to reach 1* heights with Ajax and to continue their partnership for as long as possible.

OTTWA wish Imogen and Ajax all the best for their future ahead!
