OTTWA Clinic Wrap-Up | May Encouragement Clinic and June Training Day

Clinic season is in full bloom! On the 18th of May, OTTWA in conjunction with Equestrian WA hosted our first 2024 Encouragement Clinic at the State Equestrian Centre. These clinics are designed to offer a welcoming and encouraging environment for young and green retired racehorses to attend.

We saw a multitude of retired racehorses in attendance, with 32 registrations overall. We were thrilled to have seven Standardbreds entered and 26 Thoroughbreds. Of these horses, Pushin’ Shapes came in as the highest earner with lifetime earnings of $614,980 on the track before retiring in 2020. There were also eight horses who retired from racing in 2023, some of which attended this clinic as their first outing. We are proud to have been able to provide an encouraging and welcoming environment for these horses to transition into off the track careers.

We also hosted another Training Day Clinic on the 1st of June at the State Equestrian Centre. With 46 horses registered to attend, we were thrilled to see so many repeat attendees! To have so many retired racehorses continue to attend clinics has been wonderful for everyone involved to witness their progression into off the track homes and careers. Of this clinic, we saw the likes of successful racehorses, Bass Strait and Benito, along with super Standardbreds such as Playing the Fool and Sutters Pride. Based on the photos taken by our wonderful event photographer, Eric Lloyd Photography, there were also plenty of happy horses, riders, and pricked ears in attendance!

Many of the horses that attended our June Training Day clinic are competing this weekend in Moora. We wish them all the best!

Our next clinic is a double-whammy with June 15 at Magenup Equestrian Centre and June 16 at State Equestrian Centre. We look forward to a big weekend of learning and developing!
