Off the Track Connections with Overpass
With the highly anticipated KIA QUOKKA later today, we took the opportunity to dive into some off-the-track horses connected to none other than the QUOKKA champ, OVERPASS.
Sired by Vancouver, Overpass shares parentage with several horses here in Western Australia who’ve found new homes and careers. While they may not have matched Overpass’s staggering ten million dollars in earnings, each one is making their mark in their own unique way off the track.
The following horses have been claimed through the OTTWA Passport and are by Vancouver:
🐴 Luminaries
Luminaries was purchased at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale for $150,000. He accumulated a modest $2,400 in earnings with trainer, Vernon Brockman.
Since retiring from racing in 2023, ‘Lumi’ has embraced life off the track with Claire Le Moignan.
🐴 Bullet Hero
Bullet Hero was purchased for $180,000 at the 2019 Inglis Easter Australian Sale. He accumulated a career total of just under $50,000 with trainer, Marcus Wilson.
Since retiring from racing in 2023, ‘Frank’ has transitioned into a new career as an eventer with Isabel Kitto.
🐴 Cypress Mountain
Cypress Mountain accumulated $990 from four racing starts. Trained by Paul Hunter, Cypress Mountain retired from racing in 2024.
Since retiring, ‘Bagz’ has transitioned into life off the track, competed as Ivanna Park Money Bagz.
🐴 Designated Surviva
After only four starts, Designated Surviva retired from racing in 2023. Trained by Billy Healey, Designated Surviva retired with $1,500 in lifetime earnings.
Since retiring from racing, Designated Surviva has taken up a new career as an eventer with Monique Swanson.
🐴 Dunbar
Dunbar accumulated a total of $159,393 in lifetime earnings throughout his racing career. After 38 starts for Fernie Racing, Dunbar retired in 2024.
Dunbar is yet another Vancouver progeny competing in eventing in his off the track career. ‘Duncan’ events with Robbie Vlasschaert.
🐴 English Bay
English Bay accumulated just over $15,000 in lifetime earnings for trainer, Ryan Hill. After ten starts and one win, English Bay retired from racing in 2023.
Chloe is one of two Vancouver mares enjoying their off the track life with an OTTWA Passport.
🐴 Manitoba
Manitoba accumulated $33,769 in lifetime earnings from his 20 starts. After one win for trainer, Brock Lewthwaite, he retired in 2024.
‘Toby’ is now enjoying life off the track with owner, Jes Cottier.
🐴 Morticia
Morticia accumulated just under $20,000 in lifetime earnings for Fernie Racing. With nine starts for one win, Morticia retired from racing in 2024.
Since retiring, ‘Ivy’ has begun her off the track career as a dressage and showing mount for owner, Naomi Crowder.
🐴 Scurgey Boy
Scurgey Boy raced for a total of six starts with trainer, Tony Scally. Earning just under $20,000, Scurgey Boy retired in 2023.
Since retiring, ‘Tank’ joins the eventing enthusiasts and is competed by Jade Donald.
🐴 Vanman
Vanman also trained with Tony Scally for 33 starts. Earning just under $65,000, Vanman retired from racing in 2024.
‘Valentino’ joins the above horses by Vancouver enjoying life off the track in Western Australia.
