Not An Act | From Racehorse to Equestrian Partner
Not an Act, affectionately known as Daisy, retired from racing in 2019 after 15 starts. During her career, this lovely mare by Akhenaton claimed three wins and three seconds, racing at local tracks in Belmont and Pinjarra, as well as country tracks in Narrogin and Carnarvon. Today, Daisy enjoys a fulfilling second career as an off-the-track horse, lovingly owned by Chloe Bingham.
Daisy is Chloe’s first horse and the first one she ever tried.
Chloe recalls, “When I first rode her, she was so gentle and kind. After our quick trot around, I got off with the biggest smile, which only grew when she started to follow me around.”
Their first year together was about building a relationship, with Chloe learning the ins and outs of horse ownership. Daisy proved to be the perfect first horse, guiding Chloe through the process. In their second year, Chloe joined Darlington Pony Club, where they honed their skills. By 2022, they transitioned to Wooroloo Pony Club. Daisy and Chloe have also attended OTTWA Clinics, with Chloe citing lessons from Kellie-Ann Crowe as pivotal in their progress.
“Daisy is a very special mare,” Chloe shares. “She’s the safest horse I’ve ever met, and the only horse I trust so deeply. If you’re kind to her, she’ll be kind to you.”
Chloe describes Daisy as a quirky little mare with a funny personality. Having owned Daisy since she was twelve, Chloe has come to understand her horse thoroughly. Daisy remains unphased by Chloe’s puppy running around her and is always happy to plod along on a loose rein after a gallop.
Together, Chloe and Daisy have competed in various disciplines, including eventing, show jumping, and show horse events at agricultural shows. Chloe fondly recalls winning both the 70 and 80cm classes at WASJA last year, as well as earning Champion awards at the Toodyay and Northam Agricultural Shows. Daisy consistently placed in the top three in all of her classes.
Looking ahead, Chloe hopes to move Daisy up to 80cm eventing classes after building their skills at the 65cm level. She also plans to continue jumping at 90cm and aspires to eventually compete at the 1* eventing level. Chloe dreams of one day participating in events such as Equestrian In The Park and the Melbourne International Three-Day Event. However, she is committed to listening to Daisy, especially as she nears her late teens.
Off the Track WA wishes Chloe and Daisy all the best for their future together and hopes they continue to have fun in their equestrian pursuits!
