Main Instigator | Off the Track Story
Beginning his racing career in 2014 with Warick Bradshaw, Main Instigator started in 24 starts before retiring in 2017. Throughout his three-year career, he accumulated five wins and three placings to earn just shy of $90,000. After retiring, Main Instigator was then placed up for rehoming to start his off the track career.
Yvette Borthwick was instantly interested when she came across an advertisement featuring Main Instigator posing with his tongue out. Purchasing the gelding from his trainer, Yvette was ready to begin the retraining process with ‘Scooter’.
“With his laidback attitude, he was pretty easy to retrain. He took anything I threw at him with calmness and willingness.”
Scooter’s described as a special guy, whose not much of a smooch. He exudes a calming influence which means he’s often the horse used to provide comfort to anxious friends. At home, Scooter loves to place with his mates but is always at the top of the pecking order. Having lived with Yvette for eight years now, he’s used to his life of luxury.
Yvette couldn’t pinpoint just one achievement that highlighted her relationship with Scooter as there were just too many. From winning Supreme of Supreme, competing in show jumping and eventing, and trying out bitless riding, Scooter has done it all. One thing Yvette would love to do one day with Scooter is become a Clerk of the Course at the races!
Thanks to Yvette for sharing Main Instigator’s story with us.
