Image Keeper | Intelligent Rex Working Hard Off the Track

Image Keeper, by the stallion Scandal Keeper, retired from racing in 2022. Bred by Yarradale Stud, Image Keeper was trained by Brock Lewthwaite throughout his career of twelve starts, accumulating a total sum of $50,190 in lifetime earnings. In early 2021, Image Keeper produced a three-win streak, his first and final wins before retiring in the following year.

Image Keeper, or Rex, was rehomed after retirement from racing to Jes Cottier. Working for Lewthwaite, Jes had handled Rex from a two-year old, and had fallen in love with the big handsome bay.

“I fell in love with thoroughbreds whilst working and riding for Brock Lewthwaite,” commented Jes.

Since retiring from racing, Jes has worked hard to produce Rex into a riding horse.

“I’ve done all the hard yards myself. It’s been a long process, but Rex has made my job easy being so smart and willing with everything I’ve put him up too.”

Jes describes Rex as a ‘big kid’ at heart, who is both loving and playful; Rex is also a smart horse who learns rather quickly. Together, Jes and Rex attended the most recent Serpentine OTTWA Classic Clinic. Jes suggested this may be their biggest accomplishment yet, as previously, Rex had shown to be too overwhelmed by everything to even consider a lesson. Through hard work and determination, Jes and Rex rode under the watchful eye of Wayne Brush to produce some lovely work.

The future for Rex looks bright, with Jes hoping to get him out to a dressage show within the year. Long term, she’d love to introduce him more to jumping and eventually compete at Yalambi one day in the OTT classes. We have no doubt this pair will have no problems achieving their goals.
