Esperance Equestrian Club Hosts First Training Camp for Retired Racehorses in 2025

Last month, Esperance Equestrian Club hosted its first Training Camp, proudly sponsored by Off the Track WA. This clinic offered a valuable opportunity to support horses from regional areas, with a notable number of retired racehorses participating in the lessons.

The lessons were led by coaches Nellandra Henry, Deb Spencer, Sally Leigh-Woods, and Elizabeth Wakely-Dawes. With 17 horses entered, we were thrilled to provide support for this training camp, helping to enhance the horses’ educational opportunities.

Of the horses entered, five were in the early stages of their post-racing careers. Kenny the King, who remains actively racing, was one of them. Vernatious, Vivonne Bay, Marble Gold, and Auriel all retired from racing in 2024.

Local trainers, Joanna Offen and Robert Payton, each had two of their former (and current racers) in attendance at the training camp, with Joanna herself riding, Kenny the King.

The only Standardbred to attend was Modigliani, a New Zealand bred ART MAJOR USA gelding, owned and ridden by Isabelle Casey.

We look forward to sponsoring the next Esperance based clinic, hosted this weekend!
