Equestrian in the Park
Hotly anticipated throughout the year, Equestrian in the Park made its big comeback following a hiatus in 2024.
With over 50% of the entries riding retired racehorses, Off the Track WA were eager to continue our long-standing partnership with Equestrian in the Park to support those competing.
The weather was perfect, the venue beautiful, and the views impeccable. Patrons frocked up ready to watch a long day of impressive athleticism and horsemanship on display at Langley Park—right in the city.
The course was tight, with many riders coming undone at the B element of the fifth jump; the first combination of the track. It was an exciting day of competition for all!
In the Junior class, competed alongside the Diamond class competitors, off the track horses showcased why they are such great mounts for young riders looking to move up in their eventing careers.
Serena Smith and her unnamed, unraced thoroughbred gelding, Pryzwin, placed second to claim the Best Performed Off the Track Horse award of this class.
Followed very closely behind was Sadie Morison and Stars Align in third for Runner-Up Best Performed Off the Track Horse. Congratulations to Sadie and Serena, and an additional congratulations to all the remaining riders.
Of the eight combinations who completed the course, six were on retired racehorses. Well done riders.
The Diamond class was another nail biter. That tricky B element at jump five caused many issues for the riders and horses.
Congratulations to Scarlett Currey and Our Congrats on their fourth placing for Best Performed Off the Track Horse, and Jaime Hall on Conrad’s Mission for Runner-Up.
Both riders left the ring with beaming smiles and lots of love shared to their horses which was wonderful to witness. Congratulations to the remaining riders on their placings.
Tegan Cook, an OTTWA Retrainer and producer of quality horses, wowed everyone with a perfect first round, followed by a faultless jump-off. Onboard her retired racehorse, Lyrical Discourse (Moet), Tegan claimed her third Equestrian in the Park win!
This combination were the only pair to go clear in both rounds, topping the leaderboard with ease. Congratulations to Tegan and Moet on their well-deserved efforts.
Two Chances and Natalie Hibbert also completed the Grand Prix for Runner-Up Best Performed Off the Track Horse, joining a great history of wonderful horses. Congratulations to Natalie on her result.
Off the Track WA would like to thank the Equestrian in the Park committee for running such an event, and for giving us the opportunity to support and promote retired racehorses with our sponsorship. Each Thoroughbred that competed was given a $100 discount off their entry fee as part of this sponsorship, providing support to owners of retired racehorses who wish to compete.
Onwards to 2027.
