Educating Retired Racehorses in Baldivis
In October, we ventured back to Baldivis to host another successful Classic Clinic. With 37 horses attending, we were thrilled to have so many different combinations join us for a day of learning.
Colin Chantler took on the advanced and intermediate flatwork lessons, helping riders find connection and suppleness within their horses. With hands on guidance, riders were able to finish off their lessons with relaxed and happy horses.
Rebecca Thomas guided the groundwork and green flatwork groups through handling techniques designed to keep both horse and riders safe and calm. These are fantastic lessons for green horses straight off the track or just as a refresher course for older horses.
Isabel Stanley set up poles and jumps ready for the lessons. Riders were guided through a series of pole layouts designed to establish coordination and focus between both horse and rider. As the jumps went up, riders enjoyed the grids set up to test their abilities.
We were thrilled to be joined by three OTTWA Retraining Program graduates at this clinic. Happy Dayz and Sumo Tomo were both rehomed in 2025 and enjoyed their first clinic in Baldivis. Sumo Tomo has been enjoying the relaxed life of a farm horse, exploring the property and pleasure riding. Tyson was exceptionally well behaved for his first outing off property and was a perfect example of how sensible Standardbred brains can be.
Happy Dayz and Amongst the Clouds enjoyed jumping lessons with Isobel Stanley, each enjoying themselves immensely. Pluto (Amongst the Clouds) thoroughly enjoyed popping over the jumps and entertained everyone with his expressive responses. Ritchie (Happy Dayz) was another superstar on his best behaviour, enjoying the lesson and building a bond with his new owner, Tara.
We look forward to our next clinic in Magenup on November 22. Thank you to Kelly Thomas for photographing, and a special shout-out to Connor from Two as One who joined us as our Herd Hero representative for the day! Connor offered massages to riders between lessons, helping them loosen up.
