Camluck King | From Harness to Carriage King

Camluck King is a 2015 Standardbred gelding bred by Linda Hamilton. By AllAmerican Ingot USA, Camluck King began is pacing career in 2018 with his breeder and trainer. Following a handful of years under Hamilton’s care, Camluck King continued his career under Hayden Reeves until his retirement in June of 2022. The talented gelding retired after 88 starts with ten wins and 20 placings. Camluck King finished racing with $76,980 in lifetime stakes.

After racing, Camluck King was spelled and began the backing process with Kristie Morrone. After a brief retraining with the Morrone family, Camluck King was purchased by Kim Lindsay on Christmas Eve in 2022.

Having worked with off the track horses—both thoroughbred and standardbred—for many years, Kim was well acquainted with the talent in retired racehorses. After attending a carriage driving event alongside her mother, Kathy Miles, Kim noticed a lack of standardbreds in the driving arena and saw an opportunity. Camluck King was purchased with the intention to transition from Harness Racing to Carriage Driving.

Although similar in principle, Carriage Driving and Harness Racing have many differences in both gear and way of going. This proved to be a tricky process for ‘King’ to overcome as he was not familiar with the breaching strap, did not like horses coming towards him, and found standing in a line up similar to standing starts on the racetrack. After working with Kim, King has taken to his new carriage driving career with several successes and thoroughly enjoys being prepped and pampered on show days. King qualified and competed at the 2023 Perth Royal Show in Show Driving, where he was awarded several placings and Kim was sashes as Reserve Champion Driver. Kim was thrilled with his efforts at this first big event as neither of them had competed at a Royal Show. King also qualified and competed at the Driven Dressage State Championships to earn third place in their Preliminary class.

Kim hopes to complete their first Combined Driving Event in March and plans to attend the Phil Marshall Driving Clinic in preparation for another full Combined Driving Event in June.

OTTWA wish Kim and King all the best for their year ahead.
