Blue Sandgroper’s Interschool Success

Back in May, Off the Track WA proudly sponsored the Equestrian WA Interschool State Championships. Supporting young riders with retired racehorses, Off the Track WA hosted our own leaderboard, providing opportunities for riders of off the track horses.

Thirty-seven retired racehorses participated across several disciplines at the Interschool State Championships hosted at the State Equestrian Centre. With disciplines such as Combined Training, Show Horse, Dressage, Eventing and Jumping, the competition was hot amongst the off the track competitors.

In the Dressage phase, three Thoroughbreds competed for placings on the OTT leaderboard. The results were close, though a clear winner was determined with Harriet Forrest and Blue Sandgroper securing the top spot. Second was very close with Hayley Wassink and Tabannan, while third went to Imogen Freeman and L’Varss.

Jumping saw a large number of off the track competitors, with one Standardbreds and eleven Thoroughbreds. Ella McCrum and Thunder God secured the most points to top the jumping leaderboard, while Isabella Main and Amici Nero were close behind in second, and Sienna Chester and Mankind in third.

Combined Training had several competitors compete, with Charli Holmes and Trader Joe topping the leaderboard. Sienna Chest and Mankind followed up their success in jumping with second place on the Combined Training Leaderboard, along with Lahnee Pozzebon and Slippery in third.

In Show Horse, Harriet Forrest and Blue Sandgroper repeated their dressage success with another top placing, followed once again by Hayley Wassink and Tabannan. Sienna Chester and Mankind claimed their third placing, with a third on the Show Horse leaderboard.

Eventing saw many of the regular eventing competitors compete, with Charlee Morton-Sharp and Ocean’s Fifteen winning the discipline leaderboard. Chloe Godfrey and Demi Go Round slotted in closely behind Charlee for second, followed by Mila Vukelic and Present Arms in third.

The overall Best Performed Off the Track Horse was awarded at the end of the Interschool State Championships awards night to Blue Sandgroper, owned and ridden by Harriet Forrest. Harriet was kind enough to send us a beautiful photo of ‘Gropey’ wearing his rug and sash proudly. Congratulations Harriet and well done to Blue Sandgroper for showcasing the wonderful talent and versatility of a retired racehorse.
