Larrsen | Let’s Go Larry!
By My Admiration, Larrsen was bred with the intention to race. Owned by Brett Pope, Larrsen trialed twice unsuccessfully and was retired soon after.
Purchased from Tameeka Brown after spotting his advertisement on Facebook, it was love at first sight for Gemma Lee.
“I have always had thoroughbreds. I love their trainability and willingness to try.”
“I saw a photo of Larry on the buy/sell facebook pages and loved him from the moment I saw him!”
Still in the early stages of his retraining, Gemma is working hard to turn Larry into an eventer. He’s proven to be a trainable horse, with a great attitude.
“I am thankful to Tameeka and Brett for giving him such a great start. He came to me with such beautiful manners, which made the process (of retraining) a lot easier!”
Larry is described by Gemma as ‘a big dog’ who loves cuddles and has a heart of gold. Together, Gemma and Larry have attended clinics with Off the Track WA and competed in several of our sponsored events: every photo we’ve received of Larry has his ears happily pricked!
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen him put his ears back.”
They recently competed at Swan River Dressage Championships, winning the title of OTT Prelim Participant Champion. On top of this, Larry competed at Gidgegannup ODE in the 65cm, and despite horrible conditions, performed like a star. They recently won the OTT65cm at Dryandra CCI, making Larry’s first competition season very successful.
Gemma hopes to continue to improve on Larry’s eventing and is very excited to be accepted into Boyd Martin’s clinic lessons onboard of Larry. With the future bright, the sky is the limit for Larry and Gemma. They will continue to progress with hopes to reach one star eventing.
Larrsen is just one of many thoroughbreds enjoying a career after racing as a performance horse. Despite not having the engine for racing, he’s certainly found his feet with Gemma.
