Description:
Dory “Just Keep Swimming” – eventer with potential plus!
✨✨She has it all—looks and talent! Dory has decent movement, is a clean, calm show jumper, and is very bold cross country. ✨✨
She is an absolute delight to train and work with, and is very sweet–always wants attention!
A 5* competition home is a must. Dory is registered with OTTWA and EA.
Dory has limited mileage on her legs—I’ve had her since she was 4, but she took a while to mature (hence her name ‘Dory’) so I gave her time to grow and worked her slowly. She is now fully ready to ramp it up, and the past couple of years, she has had some 65 eventing starts and then easily made the move up to 80. She is clever and will try hard for her person, however, she is also a mare and can be sensitive/opinionated/rude/sweet all in one minute.
Dory has evented and show jumped up to 80cm (EA and PC). She would have moved up this year to 95, but due to a superficial injury she sustained at the end of last year that won’t happen as she needs a few more 80s under her belt first. Would be easy to get up to 1* and 2* as under saddle, she is a pretty uncomplicated ride for a rider who has been up the levels and she has the ability. Not for a novice rider or a young rider—need to be experienced and confident, preferably one who likes mares!
✅ Dressage: I am particular about my horses being well-schooled on the flat so she is no exception and has all the buttons. She regularly puts out dressage tests in the low to mid 30s. Needs more consistency getting out but normally relaxed and rideable so her scores would improve quickly with more outings. She is one you can put your leg on. Lovely canter—very adjustable. Decent transitions. All laterals established, counter canter loops, multiple simple changes on straight lines. Soft mouth and not strong cross-country – snaffle mouth all phases with plain cavesson.
✅ Jumping: Bold and fun ride xc—lots of potential. Needs a refresher as not been out since October 2024 but was going straight into water, doing drops in, happy to jump all types and shapes of fences, will keep her rhythm so doesn’t speed off on you. She does get her confidence from her rider so if you are a forward-thinking rider, you will suit. Confident and calm show jump rounds – enjoys the job, either clear or one rail. Not spooky but nicely forward. Will jump skinnies and angled fences with ease—jumps what you guide her to.
❗Superficial injury on her inside right hind leg at the end of Oct 2024 – you can speak to Murray vets about it if needed—I do have the written report too. It required stitches as was deep but didn’t require surgery. It took a long time to heal being in a very awkward spot on the inside of her leg, so she often would hit it and open it back up. She is currently in work 2-3 days a week.
Fantastic feet—barefoot and my farrier couldn’t believe she was a tb when I first got her due to the quality of her feet. Can be paddocked with any horses. Easy keeper on just ad lib hay and a small feed (mostly just for minerals!).
She used to not get on the float easily, however went on with zero hesitation on the weekend. She now mostly self-loads on the float and travels fine by herself, and I’m happy to talk through what I do to load her.
Photos and videos are available. References of your riding and horsemanship ability are a must before coming to ride her as she is not for a novice rider.
Video of her jumping is available, I just couldn’t upload it here.
Viewings won’t disappoint—she is a really enjoyable and fun ride and I think will be one to watch with the right rider.
