Be Ar Devil | Yogi and Stef’s Partnership of Fun
Be Ar Devil is a 2007 Bearcat gelding who was bred in Western Australia.
After a career of 17 starts for one win and approximately $12,000 in lifetime earnings with trainer, Robert Beattie, Be Ar Devil transitioned into a new off the track career.
At seventeen years old, ‘Yogi’ now enjoys life off the track with his best friend, Stef Winnard.
In the early stages of his transition into an off the track career, Stef found trail riding to be a handy tool.
“He was a lot more relaxed in that setting, and very brave. When he was ready to do a bit more arena work, we started with poles and basic grids.”
Stef describes Yogi as a super sweet horse, who is an absolute pleasure to do everything with. Under saddle, he is described as having a cheeky personality, who gets a little enthusiastic in crowded environments. This has not stopped them from jumping up the heights and enjoying their time together.
Stef attributes their greatest achievement together as simply having fun.
“I have always been able to count on him to give me the most relaxing or fun ride, depending on what I need after a bad day in the office.”
Stef hopes to continue to have fun together and aims to keep Yogi happy and healthy in his senior years.
“I just want him to stay sound and healthy and continue to have a ridden career for quite a few more years.”
It is wonderful to see Yogi (Be Ar Devil) enjoying his off-the-track life alongside Stef. This pair is a wonderful example of the type of partnership that can be formed between a retired racehorse and their off-the-track partner. Horses like Yogi have so much love to give.
