Rehoming your Racehorse
The following information pertains to industry participants looking to retire and rehome their beloved racehorses.
STEPS TO REHOMING
Ensure that the appropriate retirement paperwork has been completed and your horse has been deregistered from racing.
Retirement documents can be found here.
Identify a suitable pathway for your horse from the list of options available:
- Sell the horse direct from racing using available resources such as Facebook and established sale websites
- Advertise your horse for sale on the OTTWA Website’s buy and sell page and rehoming Facebook group
- Submit horse’s application into the OTTWA Retraining Program

THE OTTWA RETRAINING PROGRAM
The OTTWA Retraining Program encompasses two structured retraining pathways that provide tailored retraining and rehoming opportunities for retired racehorses.
- OTTWA Network Retrainer Pathway (NRP)
- OTTWA Estate Retraining Pathway (ERP)
The OTTWA Retraining Program is designed to support horses with a focus on strengthening industry connections with the equestrian community, partnering in positive rehoming outcomes, and expanding the capacity of the OTTWA supported retraining pathways.
